Dynavax Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:DVAX) and Sam’s Club have agreed to collaborate in taking the healthcare industry to the next level. Each of them will give their best in introducing HEPLISAV-B into Sam’s Club retail pharmacies globally. Much emphasizes will be in pharmacies where pharmacists have the authority to immunize patients.
In more than 25 years, the United States has not had a hepatitis B vaccine. HEPLISAV-B is the first one. It is also important to point out that hepatitis B is a viral and chronic disease, which can result in cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death. Estimates indicate that close to 850,000 people are currently living with the dreadful disease.
The importance of giving patients superior care
The collaboration is appropriate given that there are 20,000 new infections of hepatitis B every year. There is no cure for this disease spread through contact with infected blood. However, there are vaccinations, and it is astonishing that a majority of the victims cannot access the vaccinations.
However, Sam’s Club VP of Healthcare, David Badeen outlines the need for providing a high level of protection. He quotes, “Giving our patients access to superior care and value is our priority.”
The VP for of Commercial Operations for Dynavax, Ryan Spencer echoes Badeens sentiments. He says that the collaboration aims at addressing the unmet needs of protection against hepatitis B and particularly in diabetic patients. This is the most vulnerable category of people. Thus they require vaccination the soonest. However, people above 60years must seek physician’s guideline.
Sam’s Club offers superior products and services to millions of its members
The outlet is a division of Walmart, Inc. and it operates close to 600 clubs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. For the last 35years, Sam’s Club has been redefining shopping experiences for its members.
